**Fenced in yard is a requirement for placement**
We’d like to introduce Rayne, a female poodle mix who is probably around 3-4 years old. She was hit by a car earlier in Oct - Both eyes were damaged beyond repair and had to be removed, so she’s blind. Rayne may have no eyes, but her other senses seem to have gone into overdrive to help her navigate her world quite well. She has mapped out our first floor in her mind, and gets around well with few instances of bumping into furniture and walls. She seems to be able to find us in the house, and will give a small bark when she feels she’s lost. In the backyard she’s quite brave and explores without worry. She heard a squirrel chattering on our fence, and followed it as it went down the side fence and across the back fence and into a tree. Amazingly, she treed her first squirrel in our yard!
Rayne loves to cuddle and just sit by us. The past two days I’ve gone out into our front yard to chat with neighbor ladies before dinner, and both times she has fussed that she was left out. Once I brought her out to sit next to me she was happy as could be!
We are in awe of Rayne’s ability to navigate our first floor! The floor plan must be in her mind already as she rarely bumps into things unless we move them. She listens to us carefully to keep track of us constantly, so we’ve put several “nests” or dog beds around the first floor giving her options of where she sits so she can be near us.
After arriving in the area she was groomed so for now has quite short fur, and that allows her to feel cold much of the time, so we’ve gotten a sweater for her. it helps a lot.
We tried to take her on a leash on a walk early on, but Rayne was so nosey we couldn’t make an progress. She had to smell EVERYTHING! Little miss nosey! Today we fixed up our baby stroller and got her secured inside so she could go on a walk with us and she loved it! It was good enrichment for her to hear and smell some new things.
We’ve yet to teach her how to let us know when she needs to go outside, so take her out on a frequent schedule. The few times she has had an accident inside its been on a rug near a door going outside.
The biggest joy we’ve experienced with sweet Rayne is she’s begun to want to rough house and wrestle with us a bit. Gently, of course, given she’s pretty small. Its been fun seeing her come out of her shell and show us what she’s made of! We’re looking for a loving home for her that has time to have a little shadow following them around all day. She’s good in the car, doesn’t bark unless she’s feeling lost and alone, is crate trained and has a fun and playful personality. Spend some time with her and you’ll fall in love! We’re just starting to work on doing a few steps with her and she’s doing great!
