Hello, my name is Rascal! I am a sweet, playful, charismatic 5 yr old dachshund terrier mix ready to go to my forever home. I love everyone I meet but am most excited to meet my lifelong family! 

I had a hard life before I was rescued. I was neglected and mistreated, and when I came to Starfish I was very scared of being touched around my head, being picked up, or being leashed. My instinct was to growl and snap to try to protect myself. But at my foster homes I learned to relax because I was finally safe. Now I love ALL people, belly rubs, playing with my foster brother, exploring the yard, and MOST of all, I love playing fetch as much as I can! I love my toys so much that I can be a little protective of them, but I’m learning to share them with other dogs and to drop them and back up and wait so people can throw them for me. I also love water, walks and car rides, and would love a family that wants to play and take me on adventures with them. I’m very good on a leash, buckled in the car (though I do get very excited), and I will sleep quietly at night. I am house trained and don’t chew on anything but my toys, and I don’t bark much. I’m still learning to sit, stay, lay down, and roll over on command, but as long as you make it feel like a game I’ll learn anything! I like my personal space with other dogs but also really like to play with them, so I would do best with another dog that is playful but not too pushy and will respect my requests to back off. A person who understands how to gently introduce me and help me get to know a new dog would be very helpful for me. I LOVE my people and will be a devoted little shadow to my family, giving lots of happiness and kisses.
